Oil on cotton 76x61cm. 2007
The colours in this piece are arranged blue over brown, (as in Quartet for M). The two small images (obstinately recurrent themes throughout this series) show the tiny vague human form and the wedge shaped building. Originally, these were surrounded by linear division of vertical and horizontal lines (scaffolding), but gradually the dark lines were overpainted and subsumed into an arrangement of planes of the similar colour. The title refers to the code of Hammurabi, the first such document.
