Oil on cotton 102x76cm. 2007
One of the ancient locations for human habitation, in the region of present-day Iraq its importance to our current society is hard to gauge, but difficult to ignore. My attempt to bridge the years and the lack of certain knowledge consists of an image of a doorway, leading out, a shadow beyond suggesting possibly the building from which the view is taken, or it may be something else entirely. The adjoining panels are flat, deep green. The dark, lower half of the painting gives the impression of having been laid out in a mathematical or geometric format. There are two loosely painted human profiles at the bottom corners of the piece.
